Festival Vitesse Lumière ( The Speed of Light Festival)

The Vitesse Lumière Festival was started
back in 1997. Right from the start, it was a
crucible of vibrant creativity, revealing to the
general public the talents of film producers who
until then had no way to reach a broader audience.

The Festival opened our eyes, plunging us into an imaginative new world, unlike any other film festival in Québec.

This originality comes from the unusual blending of our Québecois identity, the imagery of comic books, of Elvis Gratton or R.B.O., with fantasy and science fiction inspired by Italian cinema gore, David Lynch, Japanese Manga or Star Wars, for example.

Over the years, as we saw the crowds attracted by our Festival, we realized that indeed we were answering a need for the expression of escapist fantasy.

We also saw that we were responding to a need for a certain freedom to express through works of the imagination the socio-political
thoughts and inspirations of a generation unafraid to confront stereotypes, to be themselves, and who knew that the genre of speculative fiction in North America could be used to open our eyes to the ills of society as we see it.

In Québec, created as a genre festival, Vitesse Lumière has become the celebration of a generation.
